EMDR

EMDR is now the front-line treatment for PTSD It can be used to treat single traumas, For example a road traffic accident. Or multiple traumas, For example, veterans, abuse survivors. EMDR is also hugely successful at treating a range of mental health issues (anxiety, low mood, poor sleep, self-harm, self-esteem, self-sabotage behaviours and many more). For some, starting therapy can be extremely daunting. Together we will develop a plan and a pace that suits you.

Let me tell you about EMDR, what it is and what it does…

EMDR THERAPY


EMDR is used to treat multiple health conditions. Anxiety, depression, PTSD, phobias and fears, flashbacks, low mood, self esteem and many others.
EMDR Therapy is an interactive form of psychotherapy that engages your brain in sensory stimulation while you are talking through difficult memories.Β 
This helps your brain to process traumatic experiences.
Our brains have a natural way to recover from traumatic memories and events. When something traumatic happens it is stored in the brain in a different way than everyday memories. While many times traumatic experiences can be managed and resolved spontaneously, they may not be processed without help.
Thinking about the traumatic memory may bring up physical and emotional sensations in the body as if the experience is happening in the present.Β Stress responses are part of our natural fight, flight, or freeze instincts. When distress from a disturbing event remains, the upsetting images, thoughts, and emotions may create an overwhelming feeling of being back in that moment. EMDR therapy helps the brain process these memories and the fight, flight, or freeze response from the original event is resolved.
The idea is, once treated. Your memories will be less emotionally charged and vivid in a way that you can still remember the memory but it feels like it is in the past.

Who am I?

Hi, I’m Lauren, I live in Yorkshire and im a registered and insured trauma therapist specialising in EMDR psychotherapy (MA, PGD, PGC and BSC) and I have over 15 years experience in the mental health field. I have worked in a range of mental health settings (prison, general and mental health hospitals and community) in clinical lead roles and apart of developing services and pathways.

I have a huge passion for recovery and firmly believe that you can recover and move forward, to live a new and different life!

EMDR is a fascinating evidenced based therapy that I have chosen to focus my career on and provide guidance to those looking for change.

I spend part of my week providing mental health care & treatment to women in prison. Today, I joined up with the Chapel to provide a service and space for the women to acknowledge pregnancy loss. 
Women from very different backgrounds, from very different situations giving each other support away from judgement for the same shared trauma - a trauma often experienced in silence - baby loss πŸ’ž

Trauma bonds can exists in all types of relationships, sexual, friendships and family relationships. They can be highly complicated. Not always a victim and their abuser but a victim and a victim can also form a trauma bond.

I've moved into the attic, a lighter, brighter and bigger space. Same venue @Independance House, Huddersfield. This space is working particularly well for blocks of therapy (sessions longer than 2hrs) and younger people who are supported by a parent during the session 😊
